Challenge
Create an iconic, net-zero campus arena exterior that works as both a sustainability model and a recruitment landmark.
Solution
Custom perforated aluminum fins on the Aurora system, powder coated to match the arena’s energetic exterior.
Completed in 2021, this complex on the Colorado College campus is part of the Colorado Springs City for Champions initiative. JLG Architects won a national design competition for a new hockey arena and natatorium, with a primary goal of a net-zero facility.
The building is meant to be an aspirational model of accessibility and sustainability, and an energetic exterior that makes a strong first impression in the lobby. Valmont Facades supplied custom perforated fins in powder-coated aluminum on the Aurora system.
Nunn Construction was the general contractor and SGH Denver was the subcontractor.
